Russian military expert and Major General Sergei Lipovoy has detailed the overnight Ukrainian drone and missile attack on Ryazan Region, which sparked a fire at a local oil refinery.
According to Lipovoy, Ryazan Region is within range of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles supplied by European countries. He believes the drones were most likely launched from the Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov or Sumy regions.
The general emphasized that Russian air defense systems intercept and destroy the overwhelming majority of Ukrainian drones long before they reach their intended targets. Only a small number of UAVs manage to penetrate Russian defenses and approach the facilities targeted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The overnight assault caused damage beyond the Ryazan oil refinery, where a fire broke out. Vehicles and warehouse facilities were also damaged during the attack.
Security concerns prompted the cancellation of classes at several schools and kindergartens in the region.
On the morning of October 15, Russia’s Defense Ministry released official figures on the attack. According to the ministry, Russian air defenses destroyed 69 Ukrainian drones and four long-range Flamingo cruise missiles deployed against the Ryazan refinery.
