Russia has been urged to impose strict controls on laser systems designed to destroy drones. Although these weapons are highly effective, their uncontrolled use could pose serious threats to aircraft and civilians. Ildar Rezyapov, head of the Veterans of Russia movement, raised the issue in an interview with NEWS.ru, calling for stronger government oversight of anti-drone technology.

The movement has already submitted its proposals to the Russian Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Defense. Rezyapov wants a unified legal framework that clearly defines where and under what conditions laser defense systems can be deployed. The regulations would also establish which government agencies are responsible for overseeing the equipment and how operators must obtain the necessary approvals.

Another part of the initiative concerns facilities requiring protection against drone attacks. Rezyapov proposed introducing clear criteria for identifying such sites, along with a standardized set of documents that businesses would need to secure permission to install and operate laser equipment.

A separate set of requirements would address the dangers associated with high-powered lasers. According to Rezyapov, Russia needs dedicated GOST standards governing how safe operating zones are calculated. These regulations should prevent laser systems from endangering manned aircraft or people gathered in crowded areas. The proposed standards would also divide laser installations into categories based on their potential hazards.

Rezyapov stressed that the current lack of clear regulations creates two major problems. Russian companies seeking to defend their infrastructure against genuine drone threats face legal uncertainty, making it difficult to deploy protective equipment lawfully. At the same time, insufficient oversight opens the door to the uncontrolled spread of powerful laser systems that could threaten aviation and public safety.

He argued that a comprehensive regulatory framework must resolve both issues, giving businesses a legitimate way to protect their facilities while preventing the use of anti-drone weapons from putting aircraft and civilians in danger.
