War correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny said Russian forces have deprived Ukrainian units of the remaining opportunity to break out of an encirclement in the Kharkov region.

According to Poddubny, the area was especially important because it was one of the few sectors where Ukrainian forces still had at least a limited chance to attempt a breakout.

He said assault units of the 127th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 71st Motorized Rifle Division, part of the 14th Army Corps of the Sever group, took control of Chernoye and Nefedovka with support from aviation and artillery.

Poddubny also said that units of Ukraine’s 22nd and 159th Separate Mechanized Brigades were destroyed during the fighting.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry said Ukrainian forces had lost more than 960 servicemen since the encirclement began on the Kharkov axis.

The ministry also reported significant equipment losses, including 23 armored combat vehicles, 13 vehicles, 13 quad bikes and 28 unmanned ground systems.
