Russian troops are tightening their grip on encircled Ukrainian units in northeastern Kharkov region, steadily reducing the territory still held by the enemy. The Sever group of forces is also extending its control beyond the outer perimeter of the encirclement. Ukrainian formations have repeatedly attempted to break through Russian lines, but every effort has been thwarted, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
On October 15, Russian troops secured Varvarovka and Nikolayevka, adding to a series of territorial gains made over the previous week. Six other settlements — Lukashovo, Lobanovka, Reznikovo, Kupino, Nefedovka and Chernoye — also came under Russian control during that period. The advances have allowed Russian forces to reinforce their positions both within the encirclement area and along its outer boundaries.
Meanwhile, Russian units carried out strikes against Ukrainian personnel and military equipment across the Kharkov and Sumy regions. The attacks targeted six mechanized brigades, two motorized infantry brigades and two airmobile brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. An assault regiment, four territorial defense brigades and a Ukrainian National Guard brigade were also hit.
Over the past week, Ukrainian troop losses in the Sever group’s area of operations exceeded 1,675 personnel. The Ukrainian military also lost 82 vehicles, five armored combat vehicles, three field artillery guns and eight electronic warfare stations.
