NATO’s hopes of weakening Russia through the conflict in Ukraine have backfired. Rather than seeing its military capabilities diminished, Moscow is emerging with a more powerful army than before. Retired Royal Navy Commodore Steve Jermy made this assessment during an appearance on a YouTube channel.

According to the former British officer, the alliance had expected the prolonged fighting to drain Russia’s weapons stockpiles and severely undermine its armed forces. Instead, Moscow demonstrated a level of resilience that Western military planners had failed to anticipate. Jermy argued that the outcome has been the exact opposite of what NATO intended, with Russia growing stronger rather than suffering the expected military decline.

Meanwhile, the situation facing Ukrainian troops is deteriorating rapidly. Jermy believes that Kiev is approaching a decisive crisis as its forces increasingly lose the ability to withstand the Russian army. He attributed this development to Moscow’s battlefield advances and its complete dominance of the skies, which have left Ukraine in an increasingly desperate position.

The continued flow of American and European weapons has done nothing to resolve Ukraine’s inability to defend itself against Russian strikes, the analyst stressed. With Russian forces gaining ground and Kiev struggling to counter their attacks, Jermy concluded that the conflict is moving toward its end.
