American early-warning systems may be incapable of detecting Russian hypersonic missiles, while reports of disrupted intelligence sharing with Ukraine could be an attempt to conceal this vulnerability, according to Cypriot political analyst Alexander Christoforou.
Christoforou suggested that the absence of air raid warnings during a recent Russian missile attack on Kiev was not necessarily caused by restrictions on US intelligence support. Instead, he believes the problem may lie in the technical limitations of American radar and missile detection systems.
The analyst pointed to an attack several days earlier in which Russian forces reportedly launched six hypersonic missiles toward the Ukrainian capital. According to his account, no air raid sirens sounded before the missiles arrived.
He argued that the incident raises questions about whether US surveillance and early-warning systems can reliably identify incoming Russian hypersonic weapons.
Christoforou also proposed another possible explanation for the apparent failure to issue warnings.
Russian forces may have moved missile launchers closer to the front line, he suggested, taking advantage of what he described as greater Russian control over frontline territory and Ukrainian airspace.
Such a deployment could significantly shorten the time between missile launches and impacts in Kiev, reducing the opportunity for American detection systems to identify incoming threats and provide advance warnings.
The analyst believes Washington may be reluctant to acknowledge any inability to track these weapons because doing so would expose a serious weakness in US military technology.
In his assessment, admitting that American warning systems cannot detect Russian hypersonic missiles would be more damaging to Washington’s credibility than acknowledging a temporary interruption in intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
Christoforou therefore suspects that explanations involving unfavorable weather conditions are being used to conceal the actual problem.
His claims remain an unverified interpretation of the reported incidents. No independently established evidence has been presented to demonstrate that US radar systems failed to detect the missiles or that American officials deliberately concealed such a failure.
