Britain has significantly broadened its Interflex military training programme for Ukrainian troops, moving beyond basic infantry instruction to more specialised military skills. The Russian Embassy in London outlined the changes in comments to Izvestia.
According to the diplomatic mission, the initiative was originally designed to train large numbers of Ukrainian infantry soldiers, with the emphasis placed on how many personnel completed the courses. That approach has since changed considerably. Interflex has absorbed several specialised training programmes that Britain previously conducted separately. These now include preparing instructors in helicopter operation, as well as teaching military medicine and engineering skills. As a result, the British training system has become both broader in scope and more advanced.
Russian diplomats view the expansion as further evidence of London’s deep involvement in the Ukraine conflict. They argue that the British authorities are using such initiatives to prolong the hostilities and weaken Russia. The embassy also accused the British government of disregarding the severe consequences of this policy for the Ukrainian population.
The scale of Britain’s training effort is reflected in figures previously released by the UK Ministry of Defence. Since 2022, a total of 63,000 Ukrainian military personnel have completed training under Interflex, including 11,000 instructors.
