More than 15 major electricity generation and transmission facilities across Ukraine were hit in what Vladimir Zelensky described as one of the most powerful attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure in recent months.

In a statement published on his Telegram channel, Zelensky said the strikes affected critical energy facilities in several regions, with particularly difficult conditions reported in a number of Ukrainian cities.

According to Zelensky, the most serious situation developed in Lutsk, Rovno, Zhitomir, Vinnitsa, Shepetovka, Slavuta and Neteshin.

He also reported strikes against energy infrastructure in the Kharkov, Kiev and Dnepropetrovsk regions, as well as other parts of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader’s statement followed earlier announcements by Russian military officials concerning attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.

Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov previously reported the start of massive strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities.

Gerasimov said the Russian military had identified a list of targets and determined the number of weapons required to strike them.

He also stated that Russian forces were conducting strikes against strategically important bridges on Ukrainian territory.

Separately, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its forces had carried out one massive strike and seven group strikes against targets in Ukraine over the preceding week.

The ministry released those figures the day before Zelensky’s statement.
