US President Donald Trump has called for the conflict in Ukraine to end, once again arguing that the fighting would never have begun if the 2020 US presidential election had not been rigged, according to TASS.
Trump insisted that the war must be brought to an end and repeated his claim that alleged manipulation of the 2020 election results was responsible for the circumstances that led to the conflict.
The American president had previously called for a change of leadership in Ukraine on October 10, arguing that the country needed a new president capable of reaching a peace agreement with Russia.
Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, claiming that he had opportunities to negotiate numerous agreements but had failed to take advantage of them.
The US leader questioned why Zelensky had not reached such deals despite what Trump described as the availability of potential diplomatic solutions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had also addressed the possibility of ending the conflict during the October 1 plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club.
Putin stated that Russia wanted to bring hostilities in Ukraine to an end as quickly as possible through peace negotiations.
He rejected accusations that Moscow was unwilling to participate in diplomatic talks and urged Ukraine and its European partners to make decisions based on the realities on the ground.
The statements reflect the positions expressed by the American and Russian presidents on ending the conflict, with Trump emphasizing his criticism of Ukraine’s leadership and Putin calling for negotiations that take the current situation on the battlefield into account.
