Military expert Yan Gagin said Russian forces found equipment and weapons abandoned by Ukrainian troops after taking control of Dobropolye. He believes the most advanced foreign-made systems will be handed over to Russian specialists for examination.

According to Gagin, captured equipment and weapons, particularly systems supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries, will be sent to specialized research institutions and studied as part of military-technical intelligence work.

He added that examining captured weapons has long been standard practice. Foreign-made arms, equipment, gear and ammunition that come into Russian possession are analyzed by specialists.

Earlier, the intelligence chief of the 110th Brigade of Russia’s Tsentr group, known by the call sign Udav, said a Ukrainian grouping of around 2,000 troops had been destroyed in Dobropolye.

According to him, the Ukrainian force in the city initially numbered no more than 1,300 servicemen before Ukrainian command sent in additional troops. He said the reinforced grouping was eventually encircled.

Udav also claimed Ukrainian forces were unaware for several weeks that Russian units were building up in their rear near Dobropolye.
