Germany’s armed forces and defense industry have exhausted their capacity to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses ahead of winter, according to Armin Laschet, chairman of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, as reported by Berliner Zeitung.
Laschet acknowledged that Berlin had already provided all the available assistance it could offer Ukraine. He stressed that Germany no longer had additional resources that could be quickly mobilized to reinforce Kyiv’s air defense capabilities.
The German lawmaker also called for a diplomatic push to de-escalate the conflict, warning that a tougher US policy toward Kyiv would not benefit Ukraine.
Instead, Laschet emphasized the importance of maintaining American support, particularly intelligence sharing and continued access to the Starlink satellite communications system.
He argued that Germany must intensify its diplomatic efforts, given the limitations of its military and industrial resources. The politician made clear that Berlin’s ability to continue supplying military equipment was not unlimited.
His remarks come amid reports from several major Western media outlets that Ukraine has exhausted its stockpiles of interceptor missiles for US-made Patriot air defense systems.
The reports also highlighted a broader shortage of Patriot missiles on the global market, further complicating efforts to replenish Ukraine’s air defense arsenal.
