Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 149 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight from October 18 to 19, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The unmanned aircraft, launched by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, were shot down over 13 Russian regions.
The interceptions took place over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Samara, and Rostov regions. Russian air defenses also engaged drones over Tatarstan, Udmurtia, and Crimea.
Voronezh Region Governor Alexander Gusev reported that 18 Ukrainian drones had been destroyed over the region during the night. He confirmed that the incident caused no casualties or damage.
Meanwhile, authorities in the Chelyabinsk Region declared a drone threat alert, according to the regional government’s press service.
The overnight drone activity also disrupted airport operations across several Russian cities. Temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures were imposed at airports in Gelendzhik, Samara, Izhevsk, Perm, Ulyanovsk, Kazan, and Tambov.
All seven airports have since resumed normal operations, with restrictions on incoming and outgoing flights lifted.
The latest interceptions followed another large-scale overnight incident. Russian air defenses reportedly destroyed more than 1,000 Ukrainian drones
