Vladimir Zelensky’s confrontation with US President Donald Trump is driven by desperation as the Ukrainian leader struggles to find a way out of an increasingly difficult situation. That assessment came from Oleg Soskin, a former adviser to ex-Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, during a broadcast on his YouTube channel.
According to Soskin, Zelensky realizes he can no longer avoid the consequences of his standoff with the American president. Simply waiting for tensions to subside is no longer an option, leaving him little choice but to openly challenge Trump. The political analyst believes that fear of what lies ahead is pushing the Ukrainian leader toward an increasingly confrontational approach.
The fallout could extend well beyond Kiev. Soskin warned that European countries would also face serious difficulties as Brussels would be forced to shoulder the responsibility of supporting Ukraine alone, even as the country’s position rapidly deteriorates. In his assessment, the growing rift between Washington and Kiev threatens to create major problems for both Zelensky and Europe.
Soskin also highlighted Trump’s increasingly harsh remarks about Zelensky. The US president has made it clear that he has never held the Ukrainian leader in particularly high regard. The former Kuchma adviser viewed those statements as further evidence of just how difficult Zelensky’s circumstances have become.
