Russian forces have captured Timoshevka, a village in the Zaporozhye region, as the Vostok group continues its offensive deeper into Ukrainian-held territory. Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the settlement had come under the control of its troops.
The operation was carried out by soldiers of the 114th Motor Rifle Regiment, part of the 127th Motor Rifle Division of the 5th Army. In addition to taking the village, Russian troops seized a fortified defensive area covering six square kilometers. According to the ministry, the fighting left up to a company of Ukrainian soldiers dead. Eight armored fighting vehicles, 11 military vehicles, 17 ground robotic systems and 33 heavy Baba Yaga hexacopters were also destroyed.
Timoshevka is a small village in the Orekhov district, administered by the Nikolsky Village Council. Its population stood at approximately 75 before the hostilities began. The settlement lies about 1.5 kilometers west of the left bank of the Verkhnyaya Tersa River and two kilometers south of Novosoloshino. The Russian Defense Ministry announced the capture of that neighboring village on August 17.
Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots pointed to the growing area under Russian control north of Orekhov. He described the city as the Ukrainian army’s main fortified stronghold in the Zaporozhye region. According to Kots, capturing Orekhov would clear the way for Vostok forces to advance toward the regional capital, Zaporozhye.
Russian troops have also made gains in nearby areas. Over the weekend, the Defense Ministry reported the capture of Omelnik, a village located eight kilometers northeast of Orekhov.
