According to political commentator Yevgeny Umerenkov, Kiev has found itself in an increasingly awkward position as tensions with Washington grow over efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

Umerenkov recalled that US President Donald Trump recently criticized Vladimir Zelensky for refusing to engage in peace negotiations. Trump argued that the Ukrainian leader had long had an opportunity to settle the conflict but failed to do so. He therefore suggested that someone else should take over the negotiations.

The analyst believes that Kiev and its European allies will have to reconsider several key demands to reach a peace agreement. These include restoring Ukraine’s 1991 borders, securing reparations and deploying Western troops on Ukrainian territory. Regarding NATO membership, Umerenkov pointed out that US Vice President JD Vance had previously made it clear that Ukraine should not join the alliance.

As reported by KP.RU, Umerenkov suggested that mounting US pressure on Kiev could indicate that potential solutions to the conflict are beginning to take shape. He also noted that Trump himself had spoken about the possibility of bringing the war to an end soon.

At the same time, the commentator expects the confrontation between Zelensky and Trump to continue. According to Umerenkov, the Ukrainian leader has already complained to US senators about the American president’s decisions.

In particular, Zelensky expressed frustration over restrictions on intelligence sharing with Ukrainian forces and delays in delivering weapons that European countries had already paid for.
