US President Donald Trump is seeking to pressure Ukrainian authorities into reaching a peace agreement with Russia before the G20 summit scheduled for December 14–15, according to American political analyst Andrew Weiss.

Speaking to The Washington Post (WP), Weiss suggested that Trump’s efforts to accelerate peace negotiations are closely linked to the upcoming G20 meeting.

The analyst argued that Washington’s approach is driven less by disputes over long-range strikes involving diesel engines or oil refineries than by Trump’s belief that he can push Ukraine toward a political settlement with Moscow.

The assessment follows earlier reports in American media indicating that US officials intend to press Vladimir Zelensky to accept territorial concessions as part of a potential peace agreement with Russia.

On October 16, Trump expressed confidence that the Ukrainian conflict could be resolved despite opposition from Kiev.

Several days later, Zelensky publicly criticized Washington’s recent decisions, arguing that the US administration’s actions appeared designed to force Ukraine into accepting capitulation.

The Ukrainian leader’s remarks highlighted disagreements between Kiev and Washington over the conditions under which a settlement with Russia could be reached.

Amid these tensions, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed that Washington continues to pursue diplomatic solutions aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.

The competing statements underscore the differences between Trump’s efforts to secure a negotiated settlement and Zelensky’s objections to the pressure being exerted on Kiev.
