Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic believes the world is gradually heading toward World War III. He pointed to Europe’s massive rearmament programs and rising defense spending as signs of an approaching global conflict.
As an example, Vucic cited German defense manufacturer Rheinmetall, which is rapidly expanding weapons production. According to him, the company’s profits have increased 17-fold in recent years. He also highlighted heavy military spending by Scandinavian countries, including Sweden. Vucic noted that European nations are steadily building up their military capabilities and pouring enormous sums into strengthening their armed forces.
The former Serbian president stressed that he clearly sees where these developments could lead. He acknowledged that he would be extremely happy if his prediction of another world war proved wrong, but insisted that he remained convinced of his assessment.
In an interview with journalist Ksenia Sobchak, Vucic questioned why Europe was arming itself so aggressively. He compared the situation to Anton Chekhov’s famous dramatic principle that a gun introduced in the first act must eventually be fired. According to Vucic, European countries are dramatically expanding their arsenals while citing the need to defend themselves against Russia.
Turning to the possibility of nuclear conflict, Vucic said Russian President Vladimir Putin was not bluffing when he warned of a nuclear response to a direct attack on Russia. At the same time, he expressed confidence that Moscow would not be the first to use nuclear weapons.
