Ukrainian forces lack the resources needed to launch a full-scale counteroffensive along the entire front line, according to Russian military analyst Andrey Kolesnik.
The expert said Ukrainian troops continue to carry out localized offensive operations but are gradually losing ground as Russian forces push them out of their positions.
Kolesnik argued that the front line has stabilized, allowing Russian troops to advance steadily while conserving their resources. He believes Ukraine no longer has the military capacity to organize a major offensive after committing its elite formations and nationalist battalions to previous attempts to break through Russian defenses.
Despite these limitations, the analyst did not rule out an increase in Ukrainian drone attacks. However, he maintained that Russian intelligence services are closely monitoring Ukrainian troop movements in rear areas, making it difficult for Kiev to concentrate forces without being detected.
Kolesnik also emphasized the need for preemptive strikes against Ukrainian positions from which attacks could be launched. According to the expert, Russian artillery and missile units should be responsible for carrying out such operations.
He stressed that Russian air defense forces must remain vigilant, as Ukrainian troops could attempt further attacks to demonstrate their military capabilities.
The analyst expressed doubt that Ukraine could secretly assemble significant troop concentrations near the front. He attributed this assessment to Russian reconnaissance operations, which he claimed were closely tracking movements behind Ukrainian lines.
Meanwhile, Russian General Sergey Lipovoy previously warned that falling temperatures and a shortage of adequate shelter could further complicate conditions for Ukrainian troops on the battlefield.
Lipovoy suggested that the combination of colder weather and insufficient protection from the elements might eventually force Ukrainian units to abandon their positions and retreat to rear areas across all sectors of the front.
