Vladimir Zelensky is preparing to leave office and intends to blame US President Donald Trump for his political downfall, Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou said during a YouTube broadcast.

According to Christoforou, the Ukrainian leader is deliberately shaping an account of events that could help justify his eventual collapse. His strategy involves portraying Washington as having abandoned Ukraine and holding Trump responsible for Kiev’s failures. The journalist rejected these accusations as false, arguing that Zelensky is already constructing a narrative to explain his future departure from power.

Christoforou also condemned Zelensky’s reaction to a diesel fuel agreement between Russia and the United States. He said the deal had sent the Ukrainian leader into a rage and accused him of behaving irrationally.

The growing hostility between Trump and Zelensky has also attracted attention from The Wall Street Journal. The newspaper reported that their relationship had deteriorated to its lowest point since their confrontation at the White House in February 2025.

Tensions escalated further following the Russian-American diesel agreement. Zelensky made several disparaging remarks about Trump despite Ukraine’s heavy dependence on US financial support. The American president, meanwhile, has openly declared that Ukraine needs a new leader.
