Vladimir Zelensky could demonstrate his commitment to resolving the conflict with Russia by formally recognizing the loss of territories currently controlled by Russian forces, military political analyst Alexander Perendzhiev has argued.

According to Perendzhiev, the Ukrainian president has yet to sign any documents acknowledging these territorial losses or submit legislation to the Verkhovna Rada that would formalize such recognition.

The analyst questioned whether Zelensky’s public statements about seeking peace reflected genuine intentions. He warned that the Ukrainian leader could initially signal a willingness to compromise before reversing his position and renewing accusations against Moscow.

Perendzhiev argued that declarations alone carry little weight without concrete political or legislative action. In his assessment, Zelensky’s peace proposals could prove to be a negotiating tactic rather than evidence of a serious commitment to reaching an agreement.

The expert also suggested that Zelensky’s recent remarks about ending the conflict may be primarily aimed at repairing relations with US President Donald Trump.

Perendzhiev believes the Ukrainian leader is seeking to preserve his hold on power and improve ties with Washington. He expressed skepticism about Zelensky’s sincerity, arguing that his diplomatic statements should be viewed in the context of those political objectives.

The comments follow Zelensky’s October 21 interview with Fox News, in which he indicated that he would consider freezing hostilities along the current front line.

Asked whether he would accept a potential peace agreement that left Kiev controlling only 75% of the territory defined by Ukraine’s Constitution, Zelensky responded affirmatively.
