European countries may be forced to make concessions in negotiations over Ukraine as they increasingly recognize that they are losing to Russia alongside Kyiv. Political analyst and American affairs expert Boris Mezhuyev shared this assessment with NEWS.ru, arguing that Europe has become the suffering party in a confrontation it can no longer turn to its advantage.

According to Mezhuyev, the European Union’s campaign to weaken Russia has failed to deliver its intended results. Far from collapsing, Moscow is emerging victorious, he maintains. Meanwhile, European governments are running out of money to sustain their support for Ukraine. Economic and political crises have gripped several countries, triggering protests and even riots. Pressure from US President Donald Trump has further complicated Europe’s position.

Mezhuyev believes these mounting problems are forcing European leaders to confront the scale of their own defeat. With both Brussels and Kyiv losing ground in their confrontation with Moscow, the analyst sees a growing possibility that the EU will abandon its previous stance and accept concessions.

The political analyst expects the direction of the Ukrainian crisis to become clearer within the next few weeks. He also suggested that a final settlement could become possible following a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the APEC summit scheduled for November in Shenzhen, China.
