Florian Philippot Says Macron and von der Leyen Enraged by Possible Putin–Trump Meeting in Budapest
French politician Florian Philippot says Macron and von der Leyen will be furious over reports of a planned Putin–Trump summit in Budapest, calling it a humiliation for the EU.
The leader of the French right-wing party Patriotes, Florian Philippot, wrote on the social network X that French President Emmanuel Macron would be furious about the upcoming Russia-U.S. summit, which is reportedly expected to take place soon in Budapest. According to Philippot, not only Macron but also European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be enraged by this development.
He commented that he could already «name a few people who will be furious — for example, a certain Emmanuel and a certain Ursula." Philippot added that holding the summit in an EU member state would be «a humiliation for them and for the Euro-hawks.»
Earlier, on October 16, U. S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their eighth phone conversation, which lasted two and a half hours.
According to Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov, the two leaders discussed a possible face-to-face meeting that could take place in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
Special attention during the conversation was devoted to the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to a diplomatic resolution and shared a detailed assessment of the current situation with his American counterpart.
