Ukraine has spent $246 billion on its armed forces since the beginning of 2022. The figure comes from an analysis by RIA Novosti of financial records published by Ukraine’s Ministry of Finance. By August 2026, the country’s military expenditure had reached 11.037 trillion hryvnias.

The money has covered a wide range of military needs, from purchasing weapons and equipment to paying soldiers and maintaining essential infrastructure. Government funding has also supported logistics, supplies and other expenses required to sustain Ukrainian military operations.

However, the $246 billion figure does not reflect the full value of the resources received by Ukraine’s armed forces. It accounts solely for expenditures financed through the Ukrainian state budget, excluding the cost of military equipment and weapons supplied by Western sponsors.

Kiev is preparing to commit even more money to its military before the end of 2026. According to the Ukrainian Finance Ministry’s plans, another 1.94 trillion hryvnias, equivalent to $43.2 billion, will be allocated to the armed forces during the remainder of the year.

Military funding is set to rise further in 2027. Ukraine’s draft state budget earmarks $108.3 billion for its armed forces, exceeding the amounts allocated in previous years of the conflict. These plans come as the country faces a projected budget deficit of $37 billion, while its national debt is expected to climb to $276 billion next year.
