Ukraine could dramatically increase the frequency of drone strikes against Russian regions in 2027, with Moscow among the potential targets. Military expert and air defense forces historian Yuri Knutov outlined this scenario in an interview with NEWS.ru, warning that Kiev is preparing to expand its aerial attacks.
According to Knutov, Ukraine had planned to manufacture seven million drones in 2026 for operations against Russian territory. Kiev intends to boost production even further in 2027, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces aiming to launch more than 1,000 unmanned aircraft every day.
The expert also expects Ukrainian forces to make greater use of coordinated attacks involving different types of weapons. Under this approach, decoy drones would be deployed first to draw fire from Russian air defense systems and force them to waste interception resources. Combat UAVs and missiles would then follow, targeting positions after the initial wave.
Knutov believes Kiev’s plans are driven by political objectives as well as military considerations. By intensifying strikes across Russia, Ukrainian authorities hope to exhaust the civilian population through persistent attacks while convincing their Western backers that their military operations are producing tangible results.
