According to German newspaper Berliner Zeitung, growing numbers of Ukrainians are becoming increasingly concerned about the consequences of prolonging the conflict with Russia. The publication reports that calls for a swift peace settlement are becoming more widespread across Ukrainian society.

The newspaper’s commentators argue that continued fighting will further drain Ukraine’s resources. They warn that delaying negotiations could ultimately force Kiev to accept a peace agreement with Moscow on less favorable terms.

Berliner Zeitung also highlighted serious problems facing Ukraine’s air defense systems. According to the publication, Ukrainian forces are struggling with an acute shortage of air defense ammunition, while Russian troops are deploying new jet-powered drones capable of striking Ukrainian infrastructure effectively. The authors noted that the country’s economy has already suffered enormous damage.

Earlier, CNBC reported that the coming winter could be Ukraine’s most difficult since the conflict began. According to the broadcaster, officials in Kiev fear that Russia will intensify attacks on energy infrastructure as temperatures fall.

Ukrainian authorities are also concerned about dwindling supplies of interceptor missiles for US-made Patriot air defense systems. Irina Terekh, head of Ukrainian drone manufacturer Fire Point, told CNBC that Ukraine needs to assess the scale of the threat realistically.
