The United States may still have an interest in prolonging the Ukraine conflict, as the fighting weakens both Russia and the European Union. According to political analyst Vladimir Skachko, Washington’s objective is no longer to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow but to undermine potential competitors. He shared this assessment in an interview with NEWS.ru.

Skachko pointed out that European countries are already facing serious financial difficulties and want the US to resume sharing the cost of supporting Kiev. EU officials hope Washington will change course once President Donald Trump leaves office, or potentially even sooner, following the November congressional elections. Rather than allowing America to continue profiting from arms sales while Europe bears the financial burden, they want the US to take direct responsibility for at least part of the funding.

The EU is placing particular hope in the Democrats, expecting them to restore Washington’s previous approach to Ukraine. As Skachko explained, the European strategy is to keep Kiev financially supported until the political situation in the United States changes. Brussels is effectively trying to sustain its commitment long enough for Washington to return as a financial partner and shoulder some of the costs.
