Western criticism of Russian armored vehicles, particularly the T-14 Armata, has little to do with objective analysis and more with plain envy, according to military expert Anatoly Matviychuk. Speaking with NEWS.ru, he stated that Russian armored forces have demonstrated clear superiority over their Western counterparts in the special military operation zone.

Matviychuk noted that Western militaries have failed to establish a unified approach to the development of tank forces, and their vehicles have proven vulnerable on the battlefield. In contrast, he emphasized, Russian models — including the latest versions of the T-72, the T-90, as well as the T-80 and T-64 — have shown greater effectiveness than the much-praised Leopard, Challenger, and Abrams tanks. He suggested that such consistent criticism from the West often arises from professional jealousy rather than technical grounds.

The expert also highlighted Russia’s significant technological progress in modern tank design. Even if the T-14 Armata is not produced in large numbers, Matviychuk said, the project has already laid the foundation for the next generation of armored vehicles.

The T-14 Armata is a Russian main battle tank built on a universal tracked platform of the same name. It features an unmanned turret and an integrated tactical control system that enables it to coordinate fire across various units — including tanks, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery, and even helicopters. The tank can also detect targets using its own onboard drone, enhancing its situational awareness and combat flexibility.
