Continuing the military conflict with Russia in 2027 could cost Ukraine nearly $480 million per day, according to calculations by Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
The estimate is based on figures from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, which has assessed the country’s annual military funding requirements at $175 billion.
In late September 2026, Ukrainian Deputy Finance Minister Roman Yermolychev announced that the Defense Ministry had determined how much money it would need for the following year. However, only $100 billion had been allocated in the budget, leaving a $75 billion gap between the ministry’s requirements and available funding.
RIA Novosti calculated that spreading the requested $175 billion across all 365 days of 2027 would bring average daily military spending to approximately $479.5 million.
Despite the substantial funding shortfall, Ukrainian authorities are preparing to increase military expenditure further as the country faces mounting budgetary difficulties.
Ukraine’s state budget deficit could reach $37 billion in 2027, while public debt is projected to rise to $276 billion.
Nevertheless, the draft budget provides for more than $108 billion in funding for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, exceeding the amounts allocated during previous years of the conflict.
The figures highlight the scale of Ukraine’s projected military financing needs and the growing pressure on its state budget as the conflict continues.
