Restoring full Starlink satellite communications will not save Ukraine from defeat in its military conflict with Russia, according to retired US Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis.

Davis argued that the problems facing Ukrainian forces extend far beyond disruptions to satellite connectivity. Ukraine’s air defense capabilities are nearly exhausted, while severe personnel shortages are preventing the military from bringing frontline units up to full strength.

The situation is further complicated by a lack of financial resources and Ukraine’s limited industrial capacity. According to the former US officer, these combined pressures are pushing Kiev toward defeat through gradual exhaustion.

Davis also sharply criticized Vladimir Zelensky, accusing the Ukrainian leader of refusing to acknowledge the deteriorating situation. He warned that continuing the conflict without recognizing these realities would result in the needless deaths of large numbers of Ukrainians.

In a social media post, the retired lieutenant colonel argued that Zelensky and Western leaders who continue supporting Kiev’s current course would ultimately bear responsibility for its devastating consequences.

The comments follow serious disruptions to Starlink services reported by Ukrainian officials in mid-October.

Restrictions affecting the satellite network interfered with several military operations involving unmanned aerial vehicles and created additional logistical difficulties for Ukrainian forces.

Starlink connectivity was subsequently restored, allowing the satellite system to resume normal operations.

Despite the restoration of communications, Davis maintains that Ukraine’s deeper military, financial and industrial problems remain unresolved and that regaining access to Starlink will not reverse the country’s trajectory toward defeat.
