Russia faced a massive wave of Ukrainian drone attacks overnight on October 26, with air defense units shooting down 290 fixed-wing UAVs, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Voronezh suffered particularly severe consequences, with two people killed, 17 injured and fires breaking out at several locations across the city.

The drones were intercepted over the Moscow region and 15 other regions: Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Volgograd, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Novgorod, Oryol, Pskov, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tver and Tula.

In Voronezh, the overnight assault claimed the lives of two men born in 1960 and 1973. Another 17 people were wounded, including a child. Governor Alexander Gusev reported that a substantial number of the injured had been aboard a train struck by falling drone debris in the city’s left-bank suburbs. Two of those wounded were in serious condition.

The strikes also sparked fires at several industrial facilities. Flames broke out at a business center, an apartment building and other sites in Voronezh.

Russian Railways later provided further details about damage to an Anapa-Moscow passenger train at Somovo station. According to preliminary reports, five passengers sustained injuries when a carriage was damaged during the attack. Rail traffic was also suspended along the Tresvyatskaya-Somovo-Otrozhka-Voronezh section after the overhead power supply lost voltage.

Across the wider Voronezh region, Russian forces destroyed 113 Ukrainian drones, including more than 70 intercepted directly over the regional capital.

Belgorod region also came under repeated Ukrainian attacks, with 113 strikes recorded over the previous 24 hours. These included eight artillery bombardments and 16 incidents involving explosives dropped from UAVs. Russian units reportedly shot down or disabled 109 drones during that period.

In the Belgorodsky, Grayvoronsky and Shebekinsky districts, 14 people were injured. Ten required hospitalization and remained under medical supervision while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, authorities released updated casualty figures from an earlier large-scale drone attack on Belgorod during the night of October 25. Five additional residents, including a 16-year-old girl, sought medical assistance after the assault. Doctors diagnosed all five with acoustic barotrauma, and they are receiving outpatient treatment. The revised casualty toll from that attack reached two dead and 18 injured.

Ukrainian drone activity continued in other border regions as well. Russian forces destroyed 47 fixed-wing UAVs over Bryansk region during the previous 24 hours.

In neighboring Kursk region, 58 drones of various types were intercepted between 9 a.m. on October 25 and 9 a.m. on October 26. During the same period, Ukrainian forces carried out six artillery attacks against evacuated areas and launched eight drone strikes involving explosive devices.

The overnight barrage followed another round of interceptions during the previous day. Between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on October 25, Russian air defenses destroyed 38 Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk, Oryol, Perm, Smolensk and Tver regions, as well as over the Black Sea.
