Ukrainian forces are using drones to plant explosives along roads in the Kherson region, with some devices concealed to resemble fallen leaves or blend into the road surface. Russian combat engineers from the Dnepr group have repeatedly encountered these disguised mines while clearing affected routes.
A Russian serviceman known by the call sign Khalil described the tactics to TASS. Serving as a senior sapper and a machine gunner with a mobile fire group in the 18th Combined Arms Army, he explained that Ukrainian troops deploy FPV drones to carry explosives and drop them onto roads. Although most of the mining takes place near the front lines, similar threats have also been detected in rear areas.
Russian troops have also uncovered mines equipped with magnetic sensors in the village of Khorly. According to a reconnaissance sniper with the call sign Zyat, Ukrainian forces used fixed-wing drones to scatter the devices, which react to metal. Personnel from the 18th Combined Arms Army are currently working to clear the area of explosives.
The discovery follows a fatal mine explosion near Khorly. Kherson region Governor Vladimir Saldo previously reported that a member of the regional branch of the United Russia party had been killed in the blast. Preliminary information indicated that the victim had triggered a PFM-1 Lepestok anti-personnel mine.
