Russia’s upgraded Yak-130M aircraft has been equipped with a new onboard defense system designed to counter missile attacks. The President-S130 suite can automatically detect incoming threats and disrupt enemy targeting systems, according to Rostec.

The protection system operates in three stages. It first identifies an enemy missile launch and immediately activates electronic countermeasures to interfere with detection and guidance equipment. The aircraft then deploys specialized decoys designed to defeat both infrared and radar-guided missile seekers.

Meanwhile, development of the upgraded aircraft continues to advance toward serial production. A third Yak-130M prototype, developed by the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), part of Rostec, recently completed its maiden flight. Bringing another aircraft into the program will accelerate testing, with initial deliveries to customers scheduled for 2028.

Based on the Yak-130 combat trainer, the Yak-130M offers significantly expanded combat capabilities while retaining its training role. The upgraded aircraft can engage targets both on the ground and in the air, including heavy-class unmanned aerial vehicles.
