Russian military expert Andrey Kolesnik believes that British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting’s call to prepare for war within 1,000 days signals London’s intention to enter into a military conflict with Moscow.

Speaking to Gazeta.Ru, Kolesnik argued that Britain is preparing for confrontation with Russia while overlooking its own vulnerability. He described the United Kingdom as an exposed target and accused British authorities of increasing the risks facing their country through statements intended to reinforce London’s international standing.

The expert also stressed that Russia must continue strengthening its defense capabilities amid mounting foreign policy pressure. According to Kolesnik, other countries are prepared to negotiate on equal terms only with strong states, while weaker nations risk having conditions imposed on them.

Streeting previously urged Britain to prepare for a potential war within the next 1,000 days, warning that the country’s adversaries could launch an attack by 2030. However, the defense secretary did not specify which countries he considered potential threats.

The British minister also called for closer cooperation with NATO and the United States, alongside efforts to rebuild domestic industry and accelerate technological development. He argued that these measures would help Britain surpass its potential adversaries in innovation and manufacturing capabilities.

Streeting also announced major NATO military exercises scheduled for November in Poland. At least 1,500 alliance personnel will participate in drills focused on the possible deployment of European troops to Ukraine following a ceasefire.
