Vladimir Zelensky is not prepared to engage in peace negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, but changing circumstances are making a diplomatic settlement increasingly inevitable, according to Vladimir Konstantinov, head of the Crimean parliament.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, Konstantinov argued that Zelensky faces a difficult period as pressure for negotiations grows. He claimed that the Ukrainian leader has never been genuinely interested in reaching a peace agreement and lacks the political skills required to conduct meaningful talks.

Konstantinov also believes that ending the conflict would bring Zelensky’s political career to an end. According to the Crimean parliamentary leader, Zelensky entered politics without sufficient experience and failed to develop the necessary leadership and negotiating abilities during his seven and a half years in power.

The official further questioned Zelensky’s legitimacy, arguing that his presidential term had already expired. Konstantinov maintained that this could raise legal questions about the validity of Zelensky’s signature on any future peace agreement.

Presidential elections have not been held in Ukraine because martial law remains in effect. In December 2025, US President Donald Trump also raised the issue of holding elections in Ukraine, criticizing Zelensky for remaining in office without a new vote and describing him as a dictator without elections.
