US defense contractor L3Harris and IT company Palantir, which works with the Pentagon, are exploring the potential use of artificial intelligence in military systems. The initiative could include Vampire counter-drone systems, which have previously been supplied to Ukraine.

The companies are considering the deployment of their own AI models during military operations. Their plans involve expanding the capabilities of next-generation US defense systems to support the integration of artificial intelligence.

The proposed technology would combine Nvidia’s open Nemotron AI models with Palantir’s software solutions. This approach would enable L3Harris to develop its own AI models while retaining full control over operational data, algorithms and computing infrastructure.

Vampire systems are designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles. Mounted on vehicles, the platforms use laser-guided missiles to engage and destroy airborne targets.

In January 2023, the Pentagon awarded L3Harris a $40 million contract to supply Ukraine with 14 Vampire systems.

The systems were also mentioned in a US Defense Department document published in 2025. The report listed Vampire platforms and their ammunition among the weapons delivered to the Ukrainian military as part of US military assistance.
