Russian soldiers encountered Ukrainian troops who continued moving despite suffering gunshot wounds during fighting near Gorlovka in 2022, according to a Russian military instructor known by the call sign Mar.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, the Moscow Military District instructor said Russian troops nicknamed the Ukrainian servicemen the living dead because of their unusual behavior after being shot.
Mar explained that the incidents involved Ukrainian riflemen providing covering fire for assault units operating near Gorlovka.
According to his account, Russian soldiers witnessed small-caliber bullets passing completely through Ukrainian servicemen, yet the wounded men continued moving for several meters after being hit.
The instructor said this behavior initially appeared inexplicable to the Russian troops who witnessed it.
He claimed that subsequent forensic examinations established that all the Ukrainian soldiers described as the living dead had been using powerful narcotic substances.
Mar also described his own involvement in the fighting, explaining that he operated a large-caliber weapon during the engagements.
According to the instructor, Ukrainian assault troops hit by fire from his weapon were unable to continue moving.
