Former US intelligence officer Larry Johnson has accused Washington of conducting covert operations against Russia while simultaneously pursuing a diplomatic settlement to the Ukraine conflict. Writing for the analytical website Sonar21, he argued that American policy is caught between military involvement and peace negotiations.
According to Johnson, US specialists coordinate Ukrainian military operations, while American satellite intelligence provides Kiev with advance warnings of aerial threats. He also alleged that the CIA assists Ukrainian forces in striking Russian oil refineries, contributing to rising diesel prices.
Johnson maintained that Washington has spent four years denying the extent of its involvement in the conflict. In his assessment, US support goes far beyond supplying Ukraine with military equipment, with the CIA effectively conducting a covert war against Russia.
The former intelligence officer also highlighted an October 9 announcement by President Donald Trump concerning an agreement to sell Russian diesel on the global market. Johnson described the arrangement as fundamentally contradictory, arguing that Washington was facilitating attacks on Russian refining facilities while simultaneously pursuing a deal involving Russian fuel.
He further criticized the CIA’s uncompromising approach and alleged manipulation of intelligence assessments to justify ongoing operations. Johnson argued that the White House must either end its involvement in the fighting to allow a diplomatic settlement or openly acknowledge its confrontation with Russia before Congress and American voters.
