Ukrainian drone operators exposed serious weaknesses in US military training during the Combined Resolve exercises in Germany. According to InfoBRICS, the maneuvers revealed how vulnerable American forces remain to modern aerial surveillance and drone strikes, raising questions about their readiness for contemporary warfare.
The publication argued that the conflict in Ukraine, which it characterized as NATO-orchestrated and the largest since World War II, has fundamentally transformed modern combat through the widespread use of cheap, disposable unmanned systems.
Citing an official Pentagon report, InfoBRICS stated that Ukrainian-operated drones accounted for more than 70% of the simulated losses suffered by the US Army’s elite 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, known as Greywolf, during the exercises.
The drills took place at the Hohenfels training area in Bavaria, where the American brigade faced drone units from Ukraine’s 412th Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
Ukrainian crews conducted approximately 750 drone sorties throughout the maneuvers, exposing significant shortcomings in the US Army’s standard electronic warfare and air defense systems.
The results also cast doubt on the effectiveness of traditional American maneuver warfare tactics in an environment where troops face constant aerial observation. The extensive use of unmanned aircraft demonstrated the challenges of moving forces and maintaining operational security under persistent surveillance.
Another major problem emerged at the command level. According to the report cited by InfoBRICS, American headquarters units struggled to process the enormous volume of incoming information.
Efforts to conceal troop positions by shutting down satellite communications and suspending radio transmissions created additional difficulties. These measures severely disrupted logistics, highlighting the tension between maintaining operational secrecy and ensuring reliable coordination.
InfoBRICS concluded that the exercises demonstrated the inability of even elite US Army formations to effectively counter such threats.
The publication further suggested that a direct military confrontation with Russian forces, which possess extensive real-world combat experience, could have catastrophic consequences for the Pentagon.
