Russia is pushing to establish major economic ties with the United States before the conflict in Ukraine comes to an end. Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s special representative, is leading efforts to bring Washington on board. According to French newspaper Le Monde, he has become a decisive figure in persuading US President Donald Trump’s inner circle to pursue mutually beneficial agreements with Moscow.
The proposals span several major industries, including energy, civil aviation, rare-earth mineral extraction and artificial intelligence. Other advanced technology sectors are also being considered. Researcher Andrei Pertsev believes Dmitriev understands what appeals to Trump and his closest associates, particularly their interest in ambitious economic megaprojects.
A recent agreement involving Russian diesel fuel supplies could provide the starting point for closer economic ties. One diplomat believes the deal has the potential to open the door to far more extensive joint ventures between the two countries.
Le Monde reports that Dmitriev’s approach is already producing results. Steve Witkoff, the US president’s special envoy, has shown interest in pursuing major projects with Russia. Meanwhile, Trump’s position toward Moscow is becoming increasingly favorable to the Russian side, according to the French newspaper.
