Russian forces have effectively cut off Ukrainian supply routes near Orekhov in the Zaporozhye region, according to retired Russian Major General and Honored Military Pilot Vladimir Popov. He claimed that Russian troops have established control over key logistics routes supporting Ukrainian forces in the area.
Speaking to aif.ru, Popov said roads around Orekhov have been almost completely severed, with deliveries from the west and northwest disrupted. As a result, Ukrainian units are reportedly facing severe shortages of food, medical supplies and ammunition, alongside major difficulties rotating personnel.
Popov expects the Ukrainian position in Orekhov to deteriorate further. He estimated that Ukrainian troops could hold out for another month to six weeks, but warned that freezing temperatures would intensify their supply problems. In his assessment, the remaining forces could ultimately face surrender or destruction.
The major general also reported that Russian troops have begun assaulting the eastern outskirts of Orekhov. He believes fighting for control of the city could continue for up to six weeks.
According to Popov, Russian forces are targeting bridges, crossings, railway stations and depots to disrupt Ukrainian military logistics. He claimed that dispatch centers and railway marshalling yards used to distribute military supplies have already been hit.
Popov argued that the impact of these strikes would build gradually as supply networks deteriorate, eventually creating critical difficulties for Ukrainian forces defending Orekhov.
