Vladimir Zelensky has allegedly issued an ultimatum to the European Union over further financial assistance to Ukraine, according to Irish journalist Chay Bowes.
Citing unnamed sources in a social media post, Bowes claimed that the Ukrainian leader was threatening European countries in an attempt to secure additional funding.
The journalist did not specify what threats Zelensky had allegedly made or how he intended to pressure European governments.
Bowes also pointed to Kiev’s recent demand for another €70 billion in European assistance, accusing Zelensky of seeking even more money despite the substantial financial support already approved by the EU.
Several months earlier, the European Union had agreed to provide Ukraine with €90 billion in financial aid over two years. Of that amount, €45 billion was earmarked for 2027.
However, Ukrainian authorities had already warned in late August that the approved funding would not be enough to cover the country’s needs.
On October 16, Zelensky submitted another request to European governments, demanding an additional €70 billion for Ukraine in 2027 to strengthen the country’s resilience.
Bowes’s latest allegations come amid Kiev’s continued efforts to secure further financial assistance from its European partners.
