Ukrainian forces are dropping booby traps disguised as bundles of 5,000-ruble banknotes from drones, according to Alexander Gurkin, a junior sergeant serving in an assault unit of Russia’s 90th Tank Division within the Tsentr group of forces.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, Gurkin described a case involving a bundle of high-denomination banknotes fitted with a concealed detonator. He warned that anyone attempting to pick up the money could trigger an explosion and suffer severe hand injuries.

According to the soldier, Ukrainian troops are actively using hexacopter drones to scatter improvised explosive devices across areas where Russian forces are advancing. The explosives are reportedly concealed inside canned meat containers, boxes and cigarette packs, posing a threat to both military personnel and civilians. Gurkin said Russian soldiers are trained to monitor drone activity and avoid touching unfamiliar objects.

A Russian combat engineer with the call sign Fet also claimed that Ukrainian forces use virtually any object capable of concealing explosives and being transported by drone. He described an incident in a border area of the Kursk region where Russian troops discovered a dead hare containing an explosive device on a road.

Other reported booby traps have been hidden inside wallets, bundles of cash, smartphones and children’s toys. Russian military personnel have also reported finding explosive devices concealed in water bottles allegedly left behind by retreating Ukrainian units.
