Russian soldiers have turned a UAZ Bukhanka into a recovery rig for evacuating knocked-out light equipment. The modification was developed by the repair company of the 1442nd Guards Regiment of the Southern Group of Forces. Its personnel can now build one of these vehicles in no more than five days.

Speaking to TASS, a regimental driver and welder known by the call sign Kazak explained that the soldiers had designed and assembled the equipment themselves. This was not their first project of its kind. The unit is now in its third year of operating modified UAZ vehicles, which have performed well and proved useful in service.

Over that period, the repair specialists have gained enough experience to complete new conversions quickly. Kazak also emphasized the Bukhanka’s versatility, explaining that the vehicle can be adapted for a wide range of tasks in the combat zone rather than being used solely to recover damaged equipment.
