Ukrainian drones sent toward Moscow may have been launched not only from Ukraine but also from within Russia itself. Military expert Anatoly Matviychuk raised this possibility in an interview with NEWS.ru, outlining several ways such attacks could be organized.
According to Matviychuk, potential launch sites in Ukraine include the Sumy and Chernigov regions, with the Kharkov region another possibility. He also suggested that so-called air defense penetration missiles could have been used to overwhelm Russian air defenses and reveal the locations of radar stations.
However, the expert did not rule out launches from Russian territory. He suggested that terrorist groups or sleeper cells operating inside the country could be involved. Matviychuk noted that the FSB regularly discovers drone caches in underground storage facilities, abandoned garages and huts. Ukrainian forces could also conceal unmanned aircraft in deserted villages, gardening communities and clearings.
Another possible method involves cargo trucks. Matviychuk explained that drones could be transported inside large freight vehicles before being launched directly from them at designated points along their routes. He identified this as another potential way of carrying out strikes.
His comments followed a massive Ukrainian drone raid targeting the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that 862 UAVs had been directed toward the Russian capital between 8:30 p.m. on October 29 and 7:30 a.m. on October 30. Russian air defense forces intercepted most of the aircraft at distant defensive lines.
