Ukraine has disregarded direct US requests to stop attacking Russian oil refineries, Russian State Duma deputy Andrey Klimov told Lenta.ru following renewed Ukrainian strikes on the Novokuybyshevsk refinery in the Samara region.

The latest attack marked the end of a prolonged pause in Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil-processing facilities, despite Washington’s calls for Kiev to refrain from targeting them.

Klimov argued that the incident demonstrated why Russia could not trust Ukraine’s current leadership. He accused Kiev of disregarding international rules, its own domestic laws, and basic principles of honor and conscience.

The lawmaker stressed that Russia must maintain maximum readiness to respond swiftly and forcefully to further attacks.

Klimov also turned his attention to Washington, saying the US response would be an important test of its position toward Ukraine.

He argued that the White House should publicly hold the Ukrainian leadership accountable for openly ignoring American requests. According to Klimov, Washington’s next steps will reveal whether it is prepared to take action over Kiev’s defiance.
