Russia must clearly establish what it intends to achieve before ending its special military operation in Ukraine and pursue the complete defeat of «political Ukrainianism.» State Duma deputy Alexander Boroday, who heads the Union of Donbass Volunteers, outlined this position in an interview with NEWS.ru.

According to the lawmaker, a fundamental question remains unresolved: whether Russia will continue fighting until its objectives are fully achieved or eventually bring the confrontation to an end through a political deal. Boroday argued that the ultimate goal should be the elimination of «political Ukrainianism» and the end of Ukraine’s existence as what he described as a pseudo-state.

He also stressed that clearly defining the desired outcome has a direct impact on the morale of Russian troops. In his view, soldiers need to understand exactly what they are fighting to accomplish.

Beyond determining how the conflict should end, Boroday believes Russia needs a clear vision of its own future. To explain his position, he referred to Pyotr Stolypin, who served as interior minister of the Russian Empire. Stolypin had emphasized the importance of building a great Russia rather than pursuing sweeping upheavals. Boroday said this principle remains central to his own outlook.

Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the operation was intended to protect people who, according to him, had suffered eight years of humiliation and genocide at the hands of the Kiev authorities. He also described the military campaign as a last resort, maintaining that Russia had no other choice in the face of security threats that could not be addressed through alternative measures.
