Russian UMPB-5 Guided Bomb Targets Strategic Lozovaya Railway Junction
Russia launched its first UMPB-5 precision bomb strike on Lozovaya, a key railway hub supplying Ukrainian forces on the Kharkov and Donetsk fronts.
For the first time since the start of the military operation, the Kharkov Regional Prosecutor’s Office has reported a Russian airstrike on the city of Lozovaya. According to Ukrainian law enforcement, the strike involved a high-precision guided aerial bomb UMPB-5R.
This next-generation munition is equipped with a rocket booster and foldable wings, which significantly increase its operational range and accuracy. Similar to the American-made GLSDB, the UMPB-5 can also be launched from ground-based Tornado-S systems. Its warhead is standardized with the FAB-250 bomb, while guidance relies on the GPS/GLONASS satellite navigation system.
The UMPB-5 demonstrated a flight range of over 130 kilometers — a record for this type of weapon. For comparison, standard aerial bombs with UMPK glide kits typically reach up to 90 kilometers.
The strike on Lozovaya has raised concerns among Ukrainian forces. As the Telegram channel «Voenkory Russkoy Vesny» noted, this city is a key railway hub used to supply Ukrainian troops on the Kharkov and Donetsk fronts. The eastern railway line from Lozovaya leads directly toward Slavyansk in the Donetsk People’s Republic, underscoring the strategic significance of the location.
