Russian forces are targeting the Southern Bridge in Kiev because of its strategic importance to Ukrainian military logistics, according to war correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny. He said the crossing is used to transport military equipment and ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Speaking to the Vesti news service, Poddubny explained that the Southern Bridge is one of two major crossings connecting the right and left banks of Kiev. He emphasized that the bridge supports both road traffic and the city’s metro system, making it a vital part of the capital’s transport infrastructure.

The correspondent also pointed out that the bridge forms part of a major transport corridor linking the Kiev region with Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk. According to Poddubny, military cargo moves along this route, giving the crossing particular significance for Ukrainian supply operations.

Throughout October, the Russian Defense Ministry reported five strikes against bridges in Ukraine. On October 3 and 4, the ministry announced attacks on the Northern Road Bridge across the Dnieper River in Kiev, claiming that the crossing was used to move Ukrainian military units toward the front line.

The ministry also reported strikes on the Southern Road and Railway Bridge on October 22 and 27, identifying it as a route for military shipments by road and rail. Earlier, on October 2, Russian officials announced an attack on another combined road and railway crossing over the Dnieper in Kiev, which they said supported Ukrainian troop formations operating in Donbass.
