George Galloway, leader of the Workers Party of Britain, has sharply criticized British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting’s call for the country to prepare for a potential war within 1,000 days. He described the warning as part of what he considers an increasingly irrational anti-Russian campaign promoted by Britain’s political establishment.
Galloway accused British politicians of fueling hostility toward Russia while the media amplifies their statements without questioning their rationale. He argued that such rhetoric has become a defining feature of political debate in the country.
According to Galloway, British authorities are portraying Russia as a permanent enemy to divert public attention from mounting domestic problems. He pointed to the country’s worsening economic situation and accused London of blaming Moscow for failures in its own policies.
Streeting previously stated that Britain’s armed forces must be ready for a potential military conflict by 2030. He outlined a period of approximately 1,000 days for accelerating military modernization, improving combat readiness and strengthening the country’s defense industry.
The defense secretary also called for increased weapons production and stronger military capabilities. He emphasized that closer defense cooperation with the United States and NATO allies would be essential to deterring potential adversaries.
