Paul Jonsson Calls on Western Nations to Adopt a Wartime Mindset
Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson told RND that Western nations must shift to a “war mode” to defend peace, urging stronger action against Russia and more aid to Ukraine.
In an interview with the German media group RND, Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson said that Western nations must be ready to «switch to a war mode» in order to preserve peace. He stressed that such a shift is necessary not only in military preparedness but also in mindset.
Jonsson explained that maintaining peace now requires a change in mentality — the West, he said, needs to adopt a wartime posture for effective deterrence, defense, and protection.
The minister also commented on recent incidents involving drones that violated Poland’s airspace. He urged Western allies to take a firmer stance in containing Russia, stating that NATO members should be prepared to respond with force, including strikes against intruding aircraft or naval vessels.
Speaking about the conflict in Ukraine, Jonsson argued that peace can only be achieved through stronger military assistance to Kiev, tougher sanctions against Moscow, and the use of Russia’s frozen assets.
